Job summary

Alyeska Resort is looking for a Mountain Host to join a dynamic team in Alaska. You will help build a safe, engaging guest experience, assist guests with directions and information, and support on-mountain operations and lift areas.

Role requires strong skiing ability, courtesy, and a passion for the mountains. On-call scheduling, long hours, and weekend shifts are common in a fast-paced resort environment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to ski or snowboard in variable snow conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Build a culture of safety and fun on the mountain.
  • Assist guests with directions, information, and public relations.
  • Set up mountain information boards and ski racks.
  • Remove snow with snow blowers or shovels.
  • Assist with lift-down situations and line control.
  • Lead mountain tours twice daily.
  • Promote Alyeska Resort at lift locations.
  • Monitor guests for safety and coordinate with ski patrol.

Job description

What You’ll Do
  • Help build a culture of safety and fun on the mountain.
  • Be prepared to perform assigned duties in severe weather including, but not limited to, high winds, heavy snowfall, poor visibility, and rain.
  • Assist guests in the arrival and departure of parking lots and base facilities; assist guests with directions, information, and public relations.
  • The Mountain Host team will set up ski information boards, ski racks, and picnic tables.
  • The Mountain Host team will remove snow with shovels or snow blowers.
  • The Mountain Host team will be asked to perform line control at lifts and assist with lift-down situations.
  • Lead 1 hour mountain tours twice during the day.
  • Be an ambassador at all lift locations during the day to provide information and promote Alyeska Resort and all available product offerings.
  • Maintain vigilance for a safe mountain experience by monitoring mountain ski runs for injured guests and/or guests needing assistance. This monitoring includes notifying mountain dispatch of anyone needing help and staying with the individual until ski patrol arrives.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of products and services available to guests and staff across Alyeska Resort and the local community.
  • Attend and participate in Mountain Host team meetings.
  • Contribute ideas and solutions that enhance the guest experience wherever possible.

  • Thorough knowledge of Alyeska Resort – including on-mountain services, ski trails, and lifts.
  • Someone who loves the mountains.
  • Will treat everyone with courtesy and respect.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high altitudes, and extreme weather conditions.
  • The position requires the employee to possess excellent skiing ability and have the capability to ski or snowboard in a variety of variable snow conditions.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
What to Expect

Be on alert and at times, on your feet for long periods, including nights, weekends, & holidays. Work in a fast-paced, high-energy resort environment. Adapt to seasonal changes around the resort and special events.

Physical demands: Ability to lift up-to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, walk, push or pull heavy equipment and stand for extended periods of time. Work Environment: This role occasionally involves extended hours, nights, and weekends to accommodate peak business periods. Operating within a dynamic, fast-paced guest-centric setting, you will maintain a high level of interaction with staff, guests, and stakeholders.
