Job summary

WyoTech in Laramie, WY is seeking experienced motorsports chassis fabricators to join our team as instructors at our Laramie, WY campus. This is a unique opportunity to mentor and teach the next generation of technicians; no prior teaching experience is required, just a passion for your craft and a desire to share it.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in high-performance automotive industry focusing on restoration, customization, and chassis fabrication.
• Proven MIG and TIG welding expertise in motorsports or custom builds.
• Strong knowledge of suspension systems, steering geometry, tubular frame construction, and chassis design.
• Tech-savvy with software used in educational/technical settings; able to learn new tools.
• Hands-on experience with classic vehicles or performance builds; metal shaping and machining skills.
• Committed to teamwork and continuous improvement; ASE certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to policies; advise students on attendance, grades, and professionalism.
• Submit grades and attendance; plan classes per syllabus; use CANVAS LMS.
• Support EPA and safety procedures; promote safe, quality work.
• Maintain class and shop equipment and tools.
• Attend instructor meetings and participate in curriculum development.
• Foster motivation and professional rapport with students.
• Prepare materials ahead of class; provide resources and assignments.
• Monitor class; maintain classroom and shop control.
• Follow ADA requirements and be available before/after class.
• Maintain confidentiality; handle tests and lesson plans securely.
• Other duties as directed by department coordinators.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Adhere to and ensure the enforcement of WyoTech policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook; Advise students on attendance, grades, professionalism, and personal problems to ensure completion of their career program
• Submit grades, tests, attendance, and all other material; Plan class instruction based on the syllabus and ensure learning objectives are met. Ensure all educational activity is conducted ethically and legally; Utilize the CANVAS LMS system
• Support EPA and safety procedures; Encourage students to do safe, quality work with safety precautions
• Maintain and attend to the repair, as necessary, of class equipment and tool inventory
• Attend scheduled instructor meetings, graduation, and registration; Participate in curriculum and professional development; Communicate effectively with all WyoTech faculty and staff
• Encourage motivation and enthusiasm in the shop and classroom; Develop a professional rapport with the students
• Prepare adequately for class and shop before start time; Have supplemental teaching items ready; Provide appropriate information, resources, and assignments for a lesson; Provide peer tutors as needed
• Monitor class; Remain in control of the class throughout the classroom lesson and in the shop
• Follow ADA Requirements
• Be available for students 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the scheduled class time
• Always maintain security on all tests and lesson plans; Always maintain confidentiality
• Other related duties as directed by the department coordinator/department assistant coordinator

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in the high-performance automotive industry, with a focus on restoration, customization, and chassis fabrication
• Proven expertise in precision welding, including both MIG and TIG techniques, applied in motorsports or custom builds
• Strong working knowledge of suspension systems, steering geometry, tubular frame construction, and overall chassis design
• Tech-savvy and computer proficient, with the ability to quickly adapt to industry-specific software used in an educational or technical setting
• Hands-on experience with classic vehicles, custom trucks, race cars, or other performance-focused builds
• Advanced skills in metal shaping, fabrication, minor machining, and working with a variety of metals and materials
• A collaborative mindset with a positive, team-oriented attitude in a shop-floor environment
• Willingness and ability to learn and apply software tools related to chassis design, blueprint interpretation, or fabrication planning
• Industry certifications (such as ASE) are a plus and demonstrate commitment to craftsmanship and continuous improvement
