Job summary

Job description

Duties

May drive a variety of motor vehicles both on and off State property to transport people, material, and equipment as required, and to plow snow from roadways and parking lots.

  • May map routes, itineraries, and points of call.
  • Move or carry cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle operated.
  • Move or carry cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
  • Post manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and people transported.
Vehicle Maintenance

Tend to the routine maintenance of vehicles operated to ensure that cargo is moved as required.

  • Change oil and spark plugs.
  • Change tires and wash vehicles.
  • Pump gas and add water to radiator, oil to crankcase and air to the tires.
  • Replace lamp bulbs.
Other Duties

Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.

Equipment Operation and Scheduling

May operate and maintain motorized equipment in support of maintenance, grounds or building trades crews. All hourly positions with the NYS Office of Addiction Services & Supports (OASAS) are utilized on an “as needed” basis, and there is no guarantee of work hours or a set schedule. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess a New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Candidates may be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C, or General Class D license.

Background Investigation Requirements

Prospective appointees will be:

  • Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. If a name appears on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect, the individual will be barred from appointment and may be removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
  • Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) that includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; a conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees.
  • Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees, and those with names indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
