Job description

This position is in Textile Care Section of Environmental Management Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area in Albuquerque, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to deliver clean and pick up soiled linen from/to the Amarillo VA Health Care System, perform driving duties, load and unload linens.

To qualify for this position at the WG-6 level, you must have the following qualifications: SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration. The SPF for this position is: DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Requires a current, valid state-issued Commercial Driver's (Note: We may not accept pictures. Please Do Not submit a copy of your license. This requirement will be verified if interviewed.) ~AND~ SCREEN-OUT: Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. Experience required for this position includes operating/driving various motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 and hydraulic lift gate; loading and unloading cargo; reading/understanding road maps and road/traffic laws; maneuvering vehicle in congested loading dock areas and operating the vehicle in dark/nighttime conditions. (Resume(s) must clearly support responses to this online questionnaire to receive credit.) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Possess the ability to climb in and out of the vehicle. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicles, electrical equipment and must exert physical effort to load, unload, and transport by pushing and pulling clean and soiled linen carts in a controlled manner weighing up to 700 pounds, in and out of Laundry truck, to and from loading docks to various locations with the TCPF, medical center and AVAHCS. These carts are equipped with pneumatic type wheels/tires for easy movement. Incumbent will be exposed to repetitive motion of arms, wrist, and hands and is required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation, reaching outward and above the shoulder, lift soiled linen bags up and onto soiled linen carts and frequent stooping, bending, twisting and kneeling, standing, walking, sitting. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, and able to wear PPE for extended period of time as dictated by work setting. Incumbent must be able to drive for up to 10 hours at a time. WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent will work a compressed tour of duty, 10 hours per day. Work is performed both inside and outside in all weather conditions. The incumbent must be constantly aware of fluctuating weather conditions, such as periods of extreme heat in summer, rain slick road conditions, snow covered and icy roads and dock facilities in winter. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic conditions and, weather, may encounter high winds, icy roads and snow. Work is normally performed inside the cab of an air conditioned or heated vehicle. Incumbent is intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals, solvents, fumes, dust and noise. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
