Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years' experience as a motor vehicle mechanic and HVAC repair technician.
• EPA Certification standards for relevant equipment/materials.
• Must possess a valid CDL and be able to obtain/maintain forklift license.
• Basic to intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels and work well in a team or alone.

Responsibilities

• Provide air conditioning/refrigeration maintenance and repair services.
• Ensure proper operation of refrigerant dispensing/recovery equipment and maintain records per 40 CFR Part 82 and APG regulations.
• Repair, rebuild, or overhaul major assemblies of motor vehicles.
• Diagnose trouble sources and determine required repairs.
• Replace worn parts and adjust engine/calibration elements.
• Overhaul transmissions and rebuild carburetors.
• Repair fuel systems, lighting, and ignition systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

Heavy Equipment Mechanic/HVAC (EAGLE 2026-25683):

Bowhead seeksaHeavy Equipment Mechanic with HVAC experience to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen,MD.The Maintenance Division Motor Vehicle Mechanic/HVAC performs a combination of tasks to support departmental operations. Typical duties include rebuilding and repairing major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors.

This position is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and employees are required to join after beginning employment.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

• Provides air conditioning/refrigeration maintenance and repair services.




• Provides for correct operation of refrigerant dispensing and recovery equipment as well as proper record keeping in accordance with 40 CFR, Part 82 and applicable federal, state, and APG regulations and directives.




• Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors.




• Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs required.




• Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.




• Grinds and adjusts valves.




• Rebuilds carburetors.




• Overhauls transmissions.




• Repairs fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.




• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required in addition to at least two (2+) years’ experience as a motor vehicle mechanic and HVAC repair technician.




• Qualified and certified in accordance with Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technicians’ EPA Certification standards for the equipment and material being utilized.




• Must possess a valid state-issued CDL and be able to obtain/maintain a forklift license.




• Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.




• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.




• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

• Bend, Squat, Stoop, Crouch, Lean, Sit, and Balance.




• Work with power/automated hand tools.




• Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds.




• Stand for long periods of time




• Repeat the same movements.




• Work in an automotive repair shop around moving objects, vehicles, machinery with moving parts, and confined spaces.




• Exposure to adverse excessive noise, weather conditions, exhaust fumes, gasoline, diesel fuel, and other vehicle fluids/lubricants.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. Due to the location of this work, U.S. citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
