Job Description - Motor Equipment Mechanic IV (250002LE)
Agency Overview
The Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), which oversees over $2 billion in capital programs and projects, is responsible for capital planning, project delivery, property management, and real estate services for the Commonwealth. We are stewards of the Commonwealth’s assets, which include 61 million square feet of state buildings.
Position Summary
The Motor Equipment Mechanic IV is responsible for inspecting, operating, and repairing a variety of heavy motor-driven equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, snowplows, and grounds maintenance equipment. This ensures the smooth operation of Surplus Property staff and the DCAMM tool lending program (Interagency Tool Barn). Duties include performing diagnostic repairs, preventive maintenance, and routine servicing of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. The position also maintains accurate records, provides training on safe equipment operation, and advises on equipment purchases. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment inventories, securing and maintaining grounds, assisting in landscape work, and performing repairs on buildings and facilities.
This is an Emergency Personnel position; the incumbent is expected to report to duty when the Governor states that only Emergency Personnel are to report to their jobs during certain Governor-declared emergencies.
General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. of which (B) at least two years must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level or above with a major in automotive shop practice may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience.
Special Requirements:
1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
2. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class C or hoisting license.
