Job summary

Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin company, in Colorado, seeks engineers to design and develop permanent magnet motors and EM devices for space programs. You will perform EM simulations, drive electrical architectures, and integrate with drives and sensors in a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires 5–7 years of motor design experience, strong FEA skills (ANSYS, MotorCAD), GD&T proficiency, and hands-on prototyping. Relocation assistance is provided; travel <10%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in motor or electromagnetic product design, specifically permanent magnet PM AC/DC motors and BLDCs.
  • Experience with 2D/3D electromagnetics FEA (AN SYS Maxwell and MotorCAD preferred).
  • Understanding of motor design optimization: torque, power, efficiency, and thermal management.
  • GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, and precision manufacturing for demanding environments.
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate with customers.
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop permanent magnet AC/DC motors, BLDCs, solenoids and other EM devices.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations, trade studies, and material selection.
  • Develop electrical architectures, winding configurations, and interfaces.
  • Mechanical design of prototype, production, and test hardware.
  • Collaborate on integration with drives, control electronics, and sensors.
  • Create and maintain engineering docs: drawings, BOMs, calculations, specs.
  • Support prototyping, validation, qualification, and environmental testing.
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot, and perform root-cause investigations.
  • Interface with customers to resolve technical requirements and performance challenges.
  • Contribute to reliability analysis (FMEA, MTBF) and continuous improvement.
