Job summary

General Matter is seeking a Motor Controls Engineer to design and implement control algorithms for motors, drives, and motion systems at the core of our enrichment technology. You will work across modeling, estimation, and real‑time software, collaborating with power electronics, firmware, and mechanical teams throughout prototyping to deployed systems.

This role spans simulation, bench testing, and on‑hardware integration, with opportunities across R&D and facility deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Controls or related field.
• Strong background in linear systems analysis, state estimation, and control design.
• Understanding of electric motors, drive systems (FOC, sensorless), and power electronics.
• Experience designing, analyzing, implementing, testing, and debugging control systems from scratch.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and Python; C/C++ for embedded/real-time control.
• Ability to perform trade studies and reason from first principles.
• Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
• Demonstrated exceptional ability via projects or portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Develop models of motors, drives, and rotating machinery for analysis and control design.
• Design and implement motor and motion control algorithms to maximize performance.
• Develop estimation and monitoring algorithms for safety and reliability.
• Evaluate new subsystems and architectures for motor control and drive systems.
• Test, debug, and calibrate algorithms with hardware and in simulation.
• Ensure stability and performance using SIL and HIL tools on bench/integration setups.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electronics, firmware, and process teams.
• Create technical documentation and specifications for internal/external use.
• Support testing, commissioning, and ongoing system improvements across R&D and deployments.
