Job summary

General Matter is hiring a Motor Controls Engineer to design, develop, and implement control algorithms for electric motors and motion systems at the heart of our enrichment technology. You will model, simulate, bench-test, and integrate control solutions with power electronics and firmware teams.

The role spans control-oriented modeling, estimator development, and hands-on calibration across simulation and hardware, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable control

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls or related field.
• Strong background in linear systems analysis, state estimation, and control design.
• Understanding of electric motors, drive systems, FOC, sensorless control, and power electronics.
• Experience designing, analyzing, implementing, testing and debugging control systems in real-world apps.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and C/C++ for embedded or real-time control.

Responsibilities

• Develop motor, drive, and rotating machinery models for analysis and design.
• Design and implement motor and motion control algorithms for performance and flexibility.
• Develop estimation and monitoring algorithms for safety and reliability.
• Evaluate subsystems and architectures related to motor control for product decisions.
• Test, debug, and calibrate algorithms in simulation and on hardware with cross-functional teams.
• Ensure stability and performance using SIL and HIL tools across bench and integrated systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, power electronics, firmware, and process teams for integration.
• Create technical docs and specs for internal use and contractors.
• Support testing, commissioning, and system improvements across R&D and deployments.
