Job summary

General Matter is seeking a Motor Controls Engineer to design, develop, and implement control algorithms for motors, drives, and motion systems at the core of its enrichment technology. You’ll model, estimate, and calibrate across simulation, bench, and hardware, partnering with hardware, firmware, and process teams.

The role spans control modeling, state estimation, and hands-on integration from prototypes to deployed systems, with opportunities across R&D and facility deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related
• Strong background in first-principles linear systems analysis, state estimation, and control design
• Fundamental understanding of electric motors and drive systems, such as field-oriented control, sensorless control, and power electronics
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and Python, and with C/C++ for embedded or real-time control
• Ability to perform trade studies and make engineering decisions from first principles

Responsibilities

• Develop control-oriented models of motors, drives, and rotating machinery
• Design and implement motor and motion control algorithms for performance
• Develop estimation and monitoring algorithms for safety and reliability
• Evaluate new subsystems and architectures related to motor control
• Test, debug, and calibrate algorithms in simulation and on hardware with other engineers
• Ensure stability and performance with SIL and HIL tests
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate controls with mechanics and electronics
• Create technical docs and specifications for internal and external uses
• Support testing, commissioning, and ongoing improvements across R&D and facilities
