Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. in Boston, MA is seeking a combined Unit Coordinator and Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support the interdisciplinary health care team under an RN. You will assist with patient care duties, documentation, and coordination with medical staff.

The role requires reliability for 4 8-hour shifts (7a-3:30p) including every other weekend, and on-site duties at 45 Francis Street. CNA or EMT license and 1–2 years healthcare experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant License or EMT required. If nursing student must have completed at least one clinical rotation.
• Healthcare experience 1-2 years required.
• Ability to multitask and handle stress crisis situations effectively.
• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Demonstrated typing skills and computer experience required.
• Good interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills required.
• Ability to lift and transport patients using the Safe Patient Handling Guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, feeding patients, etc.
• Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
• Ensure that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
• Performs specimen collection and documents all appropriate information.
• Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
• Documents patient information, such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results.
• Assist patients with food tray setup and eating if necessary.
• Communicate with nursing staff in an effective and timely manner around issues related to patient care and patient condition.
• Receive and direct Medical Staff, personnel, patients, and visitors.
