Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Brigham and Women’s Hospital is seeking a combined unit coordinator and patient care associate. You will work under an RN, supporting safe and compassionate patient care, including basic clinical tasks and documentation.

The role requires a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and CNA/EMT credentials, healthcare experience 1–2 years, and availability for 4 8-hour shifts (7:00 am–3:30 pm) and every other weekend. Onsite at 45 Francis Street, Boston.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant license or EMT required.
• Healthcare experience 1–2 years required.
• Experience cannot substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient care duties including vitals, EKGs, bathing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
• Stock and clean patient rooms as needed and assist with exams and treatments.
• Document patient information such as height, weight, intake/output, and blood glucose.
• Assist with meal setup and communicate with nursing staff about patient care.
• Receive and direct medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Job Summary

Combined role of unit coordinator and PCA. Must work minimum of 1 major summer and 1 major winter holiday, every other weekend
Under the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team assists in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

Essential Functions

-Perform patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, feeding patients, etc. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.

-Ensure that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.

-Performs specimen collection and documents all appropriate information.

-Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.

-Documents patient information, such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results.

-Assist patients with food tray setup and eating if necessary.

-Communicate with nursing staff in an effective and timely manner around issues related to patient care and patient condition.

-Receive and direct Medical Staff, personnel, patients, and visitors.

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Certified Nursing Assistant License or EMT required. If nursing student must have completed at least one clinical rotation.

Experience
Healthcare experience 1-2 years required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to multitask and handle stress crisis situations effectively.
• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Demonstrated typing skills and computer experience required.
• Good interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills required.
• Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self-according to Safe Patient Handling Guidelines.
