Job summary

Salt Lake Community College (UT) invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty member in the Mortuary Science program. Under general supervision, the instructor will teach evening and day classes and coordinate student clinical education with local funeral homes; some weekend availability may be required.

This pooled position reviews applications as openings arise and pays $1,056 per instructional unit. Candidates must hold ABFSE accreditation, a qualifying degree and a Utah license in funeral

Qualifications

• Graduate from an ABFSE-accredited Mortuary Science program.
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Current funeral director and embalmer license in Utah or eligible for licensure; must obtain in Utah within two months of hire.
• Two or more years of work experience in funeral service; five or more years experience encouraged.
• Master’s degree to be completed within five years of hire if not already obtained.
• Three or more years teaching in higher education preferred.
• Proven ability to teach community college courses and develop online curricula.
• Knowledge of ABFSE accreditation standards and program assessment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and teach classes in the Mortuary Science program.
• Assist in supervising and maintaining the embalming laboratory.
• Assist in curriculum development and textbook selection.
• Incorporate modern teaching technologies in lectures and online learning.
• Develop and follow course outlines and syllabi.
• Assess and record student performance and submit grades timely.
• Maintain office hours and accessibility to students.
• Meet college and department deadlines and participate in activities to support accreditation.
