Job summary

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Manager, Mortgage Loan Underwriting to lead an underwriting team within our Indiana/Ohio/Michigan footprint. You will motivate and supervise underwriters and appraisal analysts to ensure pipeline metrics and quality goals are met within risk parameters.

You will develop expertise in mortgage lending products, ensure compliance with risk management policies, monitor trends, provide coaching, and collaborate with operations and sales to structure complex loans and

Qualifications

• Extensive experience underwriting conventional, VA, FHA, Jumbo and CD products.
• Minimum eight (8) years underwriting experience and five (5) years in leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage underwriters and appraisal analysts to meet pipeline metrics and risk parameters.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of mortgage lending products, policies, processes, and required documentation.
• Ensure adherence to risk management policies, procedures, controls and compliance regulations.
• Monitor underwriting trends and provide coaching and training as needed.
• Prepare and analyze applicable trending reports.
• Conduct second-tier reviews as required.
• Assist with structuring difficult and complex loans and aid in exception vetting.
• Act as escalation point between other operational departments and sales.
• Develop team's relationship with other operational departments and sales.
• Recruit, develop, mentor and retain high-performing teammates.
• Manage day-to-day operations of assigned underwriters and appraisal analysts.
