Job summary

Jewett City Savings Bank seeks an experienced Mortgage Loan Originator to generate new mortgage opportunities in and around Windham County. The MLO will base in Plainfield, CT with daily on-site work and travel to branch locations as needed.

You will build referral networks, guide applicants through Encompass-based processes, and coordinate with Loan Operations to close loans. A minimum of 3 years in residential lending and an active NMLS license are required, with a strong customer-service

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of residential mortgage lending or professional sales experience in financial services.
• Must maintain an active NMLS license in good standing.
• Strong understanding of residential mortgage products and underwriting criteria.
• Detail oriented with excellent time management, verbal and written communication skills, and a strong focus on customer service.

Responsibilities

• Generate new mortgage loan opportunities through networking and a structured sales approach; develop a network of referral sources and participate in community events.
• Provide regular training on mortgage products, loan qualification criteria, and how to identify potential mortgage customers; participate in branch meetings to reinforce the referral process.
• Meet with potential clients to understand their financial needs and educate them on mortgage loan products (conventional, FHA, VA, in-house options).
• Guide clients through the application process, collect required financial documentation, and use Encompass to ensure a complete application submitted for underwriting.
• Act as the primary liaison between borrower and Loan Operations to ensure a timely loan process and provide regular updates through closing.
• Identify opportunities to deepen customer relationships by recommending other products and referring clients to appropriate staff.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) to generate new mortgage loan opportunities within and around Windham county.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Generate new mortgage loan opportunities through networking and a structured sales approach. Develop and maintain a network of referral sources, including real estate agents, builders, and financial planners, and participate in community events to promote the Bank's services and build brand awareness.
• Provide regular training on mortgage products, loan qualification criteria, and how to identify potential mortgage customers. Participate in branch meetings to reinforce the referral process and provide timely updates on market conditions and product changes.
• Meet with potential clients to understand their financial needs and goals, and educate them on the different types of mortgage loan products available (conventional, FHA, VA, in-house portfolio options, etc.). Advise them on the best options for their specific circumstances.
• Guide clients through the application process, collecting all required financial documentation, such as income, asset, and debt information. Utilize loan origination software (currently Encompass) to ensure a complete and accurate application package is submitted for processing and underwriting.
• Act as the primary liaison between the borrower and the Loan Operations Department to ensure a timely and seamless loan process. Provide regular updates to clients and all interested parties throughout the process from application to closing.
• Identify opportunities to deepen customer relationships by recommending other products and services, such as deposit accounts, commercial banking, or wealth management, and referring clients to appropriate staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of residential mortgage lending or professional sales experience in financial services. Must maintain an active NMLS license in good standing. Strong understanding of residential mortgage products and underwriting criteria. Must be detail oriented, with excellent time management, verbal and written communication skills, and a strong focus on customer service.

LOCATION:

Based in our Plainfield, CT office. Daily on-site attendance required. MLO will regularly travel to meet customers and potential borrowers at other branches or convenient locations.

SCHEDULE:

• Full-Time; 37.5 hours/week

COMPENSATION:

In addition to their base pay, MLOs will earn commission based on their monthly loan volume and units.
