Why join this team

This position involves soliciting and originating residential first and second mortgage loans, assessing applicants' financial needs, and promoting mortgage products that meet those needs, all in compliance with UNFCU loan policies and applicable laws. It includes communication with members and staff, emphasizing quality member service and professional representation of UNFCU. This is a remote, self-sourcing role that leverages relationship-building skills to expand UNFCU membership.

Salary Range

NYC Salary Range - Loan Officers are paid according to UNFCU's Mortgage Loan Officer Commission/Compensation Plan.

What you'll do
  1. Uphold UNFCU's mission, core values, and guiding principles by providing exceptional service to colleagues and members, demonstrating service excellence behaviors.
  2. Interview applicants to determine qualifications and suitable mortgage products, explore alternatives, and make recommendations; build relationships to promote mortgage business; educate members about mortgage products.
  3. Manage the application process: input data into information systems, provide disclosures, review for accuracy, ensure compliance, analyze documents, and monitor regulatory changes.
  4. Develop strategies to identify new mortgage opportunities and build relationships to assist borrowers during the process.
  5. Follow up with processors to ensure timely mortgage closings and keep members informed about their file status.
  6. Monitor market rates and products, suggest management changes, participate in educational initiatives, and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  7. Serve as a resource within the Mortgage Department, participate in training, and support departmental functions.
  8. Prepare monthly reports on origination/production and contribute to sales tracking.
What we're seeking
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong PC skills and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
What makes you stand out
  • Thorough knowledge of mortgage lending regulations (RESPA, REG Z, ECOA), secondary mortgage market guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC), and private mortgage insurance; ability to interpret appraisals, tax returns, and credit reports.
  • 2-4 years of progressive mortgage origination experience.
