This position involves soliciting and originating residential first and second mortgage loans with potential applicants. It includes assessing applicants' financial needs, promoting mortgage products/services that meet those needs, and ensuring compliance with UNFCU loan policies and federal, state, and NCUA regulations. The role requires communication with members and staff, maintaining UNFCU’s commitment to quality member service, and representing UNFCU professionally. Working remotely, this self-sourcing position leverages relationship-building skills to expand UNFCU membership.

NYC Salary Range - Loan Officers are compensated according to UNFCU's Mortgage Loan Officer Commission/Compensation Plan.

What you'll do

  1. Uphold UNFCU’s mission, core values, and guiding principles by providing exceptional service to colleagues and members, demonstrating service excellence behaviors.
  2. Interview applicants for residential mortgage business to determine qualifications and suitable products, explore options, and promote mortgage business. Provide mortgage education to members.
  3. Manage the application process, ensuring accurate data entry, disclosures, and compliance with regulations. Analyze documents and advise members accordingly. Monitor regulatory changes affecting mortgage procedures.
  4. Develop strategies to identify new mortgage business opportunities and build relationships to assist borrowers throughout the process.
  5. Coordinate with processors to ensure timely mortgage closings and keep members informed about their file status.
  6. Monitor market rates and products, recommend changes, participate in educational initiatives, and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  7. Serve as a resource within the Mortgage Department, participate in training, and support department initiatives.
  8. Prepare monthly origination and production reports for management and contribute to sales tracking.

What we're seeking

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong PC skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

What makes you stand out

  • Thorough knowledge of mortgage lending regulations (RESPA, REG Z, ECOA), secondary mortgage market (FNMA, FHLMC), and private mortgage insurance guidelines. Ability to interpret appraisals, tax returns, and credit reports.
  • 2-4 years of progressive mortgage origination experience.
