As a Mortgage Loan Officer, you will guide members through one of the most important financial decisions they may make, while connecting them with mortgage solutions that fit their goals.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships, developing referral networks and creating a thoughtful lending experience from first conversation through closing.

What you'll do

In this role, you will proactively grow residential mortgage business while serving as a trusted resource for members, referral partners and internal teams. You will balance business development with strong loan guidance, clear communication and a consistent focus on quality, service and compliance.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Build and maintain referral relationships with real estate professionals, builders, community contacts and other centers of influence.
  • Meet with prospective borrowers to understand their financial goals, explain mortgage options and gather the information needed for complete loan applications.
  • Partner closely with processors, underwriters and mortgage team members to support a smooth experience from origination to closing.

Beyond that, your work will include staying current on lending programs and regulatory requirements, participating in community efforts that promote homeownership and providing timely updates to members and business partners.

What you bring

We are looking for someone who combines mortgage lending knowledge, relationship-building confidence and a genuine commitment to member service. This role is a strong fit if you are comfortable owning your pipeline, generating self-sourced business and helping people make informed financial decisions.

Required Experience:

  • 1+ years of residential mortgage lending experience with a focus on generating self-sourced business.
  • Demonstrated success prospecting, generating leads, closing business and consistently meeting or exceeding production goals.
  • Established referral network that may include real estate professionals, builders and other centers of influence.

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of first and second mortgage real estate lending, including loan origination, processing, underwriting, closing procedures and related compliance requirements.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial and credit information and present appropriate financing alternatives.
  • Strong member communication skills, including the ability to explain loan products, pricing, guidelines and next steps clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid time management and organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple loans, referrals and follow-up activities at the same time.
  • Comfort using Microsoft applications, database tools and laptop-based technology to access rate, credit and loan status information.
  • Professional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with members, referral partners and internal mortgage teams.
  • Ability to meet bonding requirements and complete assignments with minimal supervision in a general office environment.

Education/Certifications:

  • NMLS-developed S.A.F.E. Mortgage Loan Originator Test with a score of 75% or better within one year, or equivalent proficiency based on industry experience.

You should also be comfortable balancing business development, member education and compliance-focused follow-through in a role where trust and responsiveness matter every day.

What sets you apart

You don't need to check every box, but here's what will help you thrive in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or a related field.
  • Related experience in loan processing, financial services or a credit union environment.
  • A strong community presence and experience participating in business development, networking or homeownership-focused events.
  • A track record of creating long-term referral relationships that lead to repeat mortgage opportunities.
What you'll get
