Job summary

IHMVCU in Des Moines is seeking a Mortgage Loan Assistant to support the mortgage team from application through closing. You will work with Mortgage Loan Originators, processing, underwriting, and external partners to keep files complete and moving.

Ideal candidates have strong communication, organization, and attention to detail, with two years of origination experience preferred and an NMLS registration in progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of mortgage origination experience strongly preferred, including experience with home equity loans or second mortgages.
• Mortgage processing or back-office experience will be considered, with preference given to candidates with origination experience.
• NMLS registration required or the ability to obtain registration upon hire.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Strong communication, follow-through, and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Review loan applications and supporting documents for completeness, identify missing information, and help resolve issues.
• Prepare and send mortgage disclosures for approved applications and adverse action disclosures for denied applications.
• Gather required documents and loan conditions from members, organize complete packages, and submit them to processing and underwriting.
• Review income documentation and calculate qualifying income to support the application process.
• Coordinate title work, status updates, and loan closings with title companies and attorneys.
• Follow up with members, employers, insurance agents, and other third parties to obtain required information and keep loans moving forward.
• Maintain regular communication with Loan Originators and members throughout the mortgage process.
• Gather and verify HMDA information for accuracy.
• Support marketing and outreach to current and prospective members, Realtors, and other referral partners.

We're looking for a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Mortgage Loan Assistant to join our Des Moines Mortgage Office and help deliver a positive experience from application through closing. This role is located at, 6150 Village View Dr. Ste 102, West Des Moines, IA 50266.

Summary of Position:

As a Mortgage Loan Assistant, you'll partner with Mortgage Loan Originators to review applications, gather documentation, coordinate next steps, and keep loans moving through the mortgage process. You'll serve as a resource for members and work closely with processing, underwriting, closing, and external partners to ensure files are complete, accurate, and ready for review.

Success in this role requires strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while keeping members informed.
