Job Summary:
Originates, reviews, and evaluates SLFCU mortgage loan applications and makes recommendations; counsels members regarding appropriate financial planning and practices; provides members with superior quality of service that aligns with SLFCU core values.
Essential Job Duties:
- Interview and process mortgage loan requests by appointment, web application, phone, and walk-in.
- Evaluate credit worthiness.
- Analyze supporting documentation (e.g. paystubs, W-2‘s, tax returns, asset documents, etc).
- Use credit reports and supporting documentation to verify accuracy of application.
- Review purchase agreements, warranty deeds, real estate contracts, and other property-related documentation provided by the borrower or real estate professional.
- Disclose loan applications accurately and in a timely manner, remaining in compliance with all State and Federal Regulations.
- Provide sound reasoning for approval or denial of the loan application that is documented in Loan notes and with supporting documentation.
- Provide a superior member experience by:
- Actively listening to and assessing needs of the member.
- Explaining the features and benefits of targeted products and services.
- Offering targeted solutions to meet the members' needs.
- Demonstrating proficiency in all mortgage products, with working knowledge of construction loans.
- Educating and advising members of financial planning, credit worthiness, underwriting guidelines, interest rates, and products. Provide sufficient information that the member can make an educated decision on the product and rate chosen.
- Striving to exceed the Credit Union’s service and sales goals through the development and maintenance of member relationships.
- Developing internal relationships with branches, educating frontline staff on mortgage products and obtaining qualified referrals.
- Cross-selling consumer and commercial products to members, when appropriate.
- Developing external relationships with realtors and builders.
- Retrieving and following up on referrals received through the branches, contact center, and other credit union resources.
- Participating in SLFCU Homebuyer Education Seminars and other events as requested.
- Following up with attendees to develop additional relationships and loans.
- Meeting or exceeding annual department origination goals as set by Management.
- Completing all steps required to register and renew, yearly, with Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). Ensure that all personal data is kept up to date with NMLS. Complete SAFE Act training as required by the Credit Union.
- Attending schools, seminars, and other types of training to further expand and enhance product knowledge.
- Performing other duties as requested by management.

- Ability to keep and maintain pass requirements for SAFE ACT.
Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of mortgage lending fundamentals and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage products.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum one year’s experience in loan origination, mortgage brokerage, or a related field.
- Minimum of HS Diploma or GED equivalent or more than one year of experience in lieu of education.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequent travel. Must be able to lift 5 pounds at times.
