Job summary

First United Bank in Plano, TX seeks a Mortgage Controller to lead the mortgage accounting team and oversee all financial reporting. This role focuses on GAAP compliance, regulatory reporting, and close processes for the mortgage portfolio.

The candidate will manage monthly statements, HUD/GNMA filings, and coordinating with external auditors and regulators. A CPA is preferred, with extensive mortgage and banking accounting experience, and strong Excel proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Certified Public Accountant preferred.
• Experience in Mortgage and Bank Accounting.

Responsibilities

• Manages the staff of the Mortgage accounting department.
• Oversees the Mortgage Company’s accounting operation, ensuring GAAP and regulatory reporting compliance.
• Assist with Mortgage budget to actual reporting.
• Manage month-end close, GL review, and complex mortgage accounting transactions.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and GNMA HUD filings.
• Assist with Call Report filings.
• Serve as liaison with accounting firms, regulators, bankers and legal counsel.
• Review reconciliations of Mortgage DDA and GL accounts.
• Ensure adherence to policies and internal controls.

Mortgage Controller Job Description

Summary: This position is responsible for all of the accounting functions and the financial and regulatory reporting of the Mortgage Company.

Major duties and responsibilities (essential functions):

• Manages the staff of the Mortgage accounting department.
• Oversees the Mortgage Company’s entire accounting operation, managing financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and Regulatory accounting and reporting.
• Assist with Mortgage budget to actual reporting.
• Responsible for month‑end close process, analytical review of general ledger transactions, and complex accounting transactions specific to the mortgage lending industry such as mortgage servicing rights, mark‑to‑market valuations, and hedge accounting.
• Responsible for all monthly financial statement reporting, including annual financial statements, and GNMA HUD annual financial statements.
• Assist with the bank’s quarterly Call Report filings.
• Serve as a relationship partner for the company’s accounting firms, banking regulators, investment bankers, legal counsel, and other financial services partners.
• Review reconciliations of Mortgage DDA and general ledger accounts.
• Responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures, and strengthening policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Performs any other duties as requested by Executive Management.

Additional duties and responsibilities:

• Performs other duties as requested by Executive Management or Supervisor.
• Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
• Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures.
• Dresses Professionally.
• Recommends to supervisor possible methods to improve department.

Education and Work Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Certified Public Accountant preferred.
• Experience in Mortgage and Bank Accounting.

Technical/Functional Competencies

• Proficient in Excel.
• Familiarity with loan servicing software such as ICE MSP.
• Familiarity with accounting software such as Prologue.
• Familiarity with Jack Henry or similar AS400 software.
