Job summary

Whatcom Family YMCA is hiring a part-time Toddler Teacher for a mixed-age classroom (1-2.5 years) with morning shifts from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. You will work with the Lead Teacher to implement a play-based curriculum, support meals, diapering, transitions, and daily routines, while building strong relationships with families.

The role requires 18+, a high school diploma, and certifications like CPR/First Aid.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old and a high school graduate (or equivalent).
• Experience with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• CPR (Adult, Infant & Child) and First Aid with AED certifications.
• Praesidium Child Abuse prevention training within 15 days of hire.
• STARS 30 Hour Childcare Basic Training within 3 months of hire date.
• Negative TB Test, HIV/Bloodborne Pathogen training, Safe Sleep.
• MERIT ID account, Food Handlers Card, Cleared Portable Background Check from MERIT.
• Willingness to obtain the ECE initial certificate or equivalent (approx. 12 credits).

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, nurturing classroom for mixed-age toddlers.
• Assist Lead Teacher and classroom team with a play-based curriculum.
• Support daily routines including meals and diapering.
• Encourage language development and social-emotional growth.
• Observe and document children's learning to support growth.
• Communicate with families during afternoon pick-up.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom per policies.
• Follow licensing, health, and safety procedures.
