Job summary

Portage Township Schools is looking for an Assistant/Lead Food Service Manager to support daily kitchen operations in the Portage cafeteria. You will help with food preparation, inventory, and daily reporting while ensuring safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.

You will interact with students, staff, and parents, oversee cash handling, and lead cleanup and closing procedures. Experience in school meal programs and POS systems is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of School Food Service policies and program requirements.
• Completion of Person-In-Charge food service sanitation training or equivalent; recertification every five years.

Responsibilities

• Assist the manager with all kitchen operations including food preparation, inventory, and payroll records.
• Lead batch cooking and ensure adherence to temperature requirements during meal service.
• Maintain sanitation standards and proper use of cleaning chemicals.
• Handle cashiering duties for breakfast and lunch when needed; operate POS system.
• Produce daily and monthly production and financial reports.
• Coordinate with staff and students to promote a positive dining experience.
• Support in handling food orders, planning, and vendor communications.
