Job summary

The City of San Mateo Parks & Recreation Department is seeking caring, energetic individuals to join our preschool team for a part-time morning position. This role oversees a toddler classroom, provides a welcoming environment for children and families, and mentors Preschool Specialist I and II.

Applicants should be at least 18 or have a high school diploma, complete 12 Early Childhood Education units, and be proficient with Word and Excel.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or higher or equivalent education.
• Minimum 12 Early Childhood Education Units required.
• Strong verbal and written communication with diverse groups.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and crafts that align with curriculum standards.
• Lead Circle Time and Story Time with participants.
• Provide guidance to staff on behavior management and daily routines.
• Mentor and train subordinate staff to support program success.
• Provide regular feedback to families about each child’s progress.
• Manage supplies and first aid equipment.
• Support daily operations including sign-in/out and safety practices.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records.
• Ensure compliance with established safety procedures and program guidelines.
