Job summary

Meriwether Godsey, Inc. is seeking a Prep Cook in Richmond, VA for a full-time, 9-month assignment. The role focuses on daily meal preparation, cooking, and presentation for daily meals and catering at a private day school.

Responsibilities include following recipes, prepping ingredients, labeling, maintaining kitchen stations, ensuring food safety, and assisting with cleaning and organization of storage areas. Requires ServSafe certification and 2–3 years of experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 2-3 years of prior food preparatory experience preferred
• ServSafe® Certification, principles of food production techniques
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• Awareness of commercial kitchen equipment and how to perform routine maintenance and cleaning

Responsibilities

• Perform routine kitchen tasks and follow the recipe list created to plan duties
• Label and stock all ingredients on shelves for organization and easy access
• Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep
• Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes
• Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parboiling food
• Prepare simple dishes, such as salads and entrees
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms
• Keep work areas organized, cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned
