Job summary

The University of the District of Columbia seeks morning part-time instructors to teach courses in general construction, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and related areas at the WDLL campus. Instructors will provide hands-on instruction and deliver curriculum using diverse teaching methods.

Teaching will require preparation of syllabi, use of the learning management system, and ongoing communication with students and the Pathway Director to support academic success and career development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in subject matter area.
• Prior teaching experience in the subject field/industry or must demonstrate evidence of teaching potential.
• Must possess current certification in subject matter (Certification must be the same as the course being taught).
• Be familiar with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses as specified in the schedule and course contract.
• Participate in evaluating and selecting assigned text and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.
• Conduct efficient and effective classroom management.
• Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
• Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students, in a timely manner.
