Job summary

The University of the District of Columbia is seeking morning part-time instructors to teach courses across multiple trades including general construction, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, BIM, blueprint reading, construction mathematics, and apartment maintenance.

Instructors will prepare and deliver curricula, use diverse teaching methods, and ensure course objectives and outcomes are met. This temporary position emphasizes hands-on instruction and timely communication with students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in subject matter area.
• Prior teaching experience in the subject field/industry or must demonstrate evidence of teaching potential.
• Must possess current certification in subject matter (Certification must be the same as the course being taught).
• Be familiar with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses as specified in the schedule and course contract.
• Participate in evaluating and selecting assigned text and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.
• Conduct efficient and effective classroom management.
• Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
• Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students, in a timely manner.
• Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
