Job summary

TEGNA Inc. in Washington, DC seeks an executive producer to oversee our morning show, leading a team of producers, reporters, and anchors across broadcast and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate has 7-10 years of newsroom leadership, a strong track record of quality journalism, mentoring, and handling live breaking news under tight deadlines. Familiarity with AP ENPS, Edius and CMS is a plus.

The role focuses on strategy, coaching, and ensuring content aligns with brand and FCC rules.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years’ experience as a news producer and newsroom leader.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
• Proven track record of quality journalism, integrity, and ethical decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate and execute long-term newsroom strategy.
• Train, develop, and coach the newsroom team with a focus on mentoring content creators across all platforms.
• Oversee the daily editorial process.
• Oversee the on-air execution and provide coaching and showcasing techniques.
• Review, approve scripts, and provide writing/copy editing to rundowns to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Source and recruit top-notch journalists.
• Coordinate all aspects of coverage from breaking news to enterprise story production.
• Ensure news coverage meets brand, policies, values, and FCC rules.
• Work with newsroom management to meet audience goals and develop the local brand.
