Job summary

TEGNA Inc. in Washington, DC, owner of WUSA9, seeks an Executive Producer for mornings to lead a multi-platform news team. You will guide producers, reporters, and anchors to deliver compelling, audience-focused content across broadcast and digital channels.

The role demands strong newsroom leadership, a keen eye for accuracy, and the ability to mentor staff while adapting to breaking news and changing events in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.
• 7-10 years’ experience as a news producer and newsroom leader.
• Positive track record of quality journalism, high integrity, and ethical decision-making.
• Passion for growing journalists and fostering a creative, positive newsroom.
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news and changing events.
• Strong organization and planning skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of AP ENPS, Edius, photojournalism, video editing, and content management systems a plus.
• Understanding of copyright law, music rights and basic journalism legal principles.
• Well versed in online metrics (Google Analytics, Social News Desk, Facebook Insights, YouTube Analytics).
• Working knowledge of content management systems, basic HTML, AP style and live-stream technology.
• Strong understanding of social media platforms and evolving digital trends.
• Familiarity with the Washington DC region is a plus.

• Collaborate and execute long-term newsroom strategy.
• Train, develop, and coach the newsroom team with a focus on mentoring content creators across all platforms.
• Oversee the daily editorial process.
• Oversee the on-air execution and provide coaching and showcasing techniques.

• Source and recruit top-notch journalists.
• Coordinate all aspects of coverage from breaking news to enterprise stories and specials.

Executive Producer, Mornings

WUSA9, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, is seeking an executive producer to oversee our talented team of producers, reporters and anchors for our morning show. The perfect candidate will possess prior TV leadership experience, is committed to delivering best-in-class content to our audiences on all platforms, and a desire to mentor and offer regular feedback to the team.
