Job summary

County of Dane is seeking a Limited Term Employee Morgue Technician to support autopsy operations under the Director of Operations. The role includes specimen handling, facility maintenance, and assisting with autopsy procedures on a rotating schedule that may include weekends and holidays.

The LTE position requires an Associate’s degree in a medical/forensic field and hands-on morgue experience, plus a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a medical, funerary or forensic field AND hands-on experience as a Pathology Assistant, Autopsy Assistant, Morgue Diener, Funeral Director or in a closely related area.
• Possession of or eligibility for a valid driver’s license and access to reliable personal transportation.
• Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Background check may be required due to the nature of responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist a Forensic Pathologist in medicolegal autopsies (opening/closing body, evisceration, specimens).
• Receive/track/distribute organs and histologic preparations.
• Maintain cleanliness of the morgue and supply areas; handle autopsy supplies.
• Perform basic radiology and use x-ray devices (LODOX, BodyTom CT).
• Coordinate autopsy scheduling with Medical Examiner or Forensic Pathologist and law enforcement.
• Assist in identification of bodies and obtain fingerprints; handle mass fatality preparation.
