Job summary

Macomb County Government is hiring a Morgue Specialist in the Health Department. The role supports autopsy preparation, body handling, and evidence collection with strict policy compliance. The position requires attention to detail, strong documentation, and willingness to work on-call weekends and holidays.

Starting at 8:00 a.m., the full-time schedule is 37.5 hours per week. Benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage effective on day one of employment.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Mortuary Science or Forensic Science.
  • Experience assisting with morgue or autopsy duties is desirable.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel for records and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, stores and releases bodies with proper documentation per policy.
  • Prepares, lifts and transports bodies for autopsy and assists with autopsies.
  • Cleans and maintains morgue areas and maintains supplies.
  • Orders and inventories autopsy/morgue supplies and prepares toxicology kits.
  • Photographs autopsies and coordinates with law enforcement as needed.
  • Performs clerical duties and maintains daily logs and records.
  • Provides on-call weekend/holiday coverage on a rotating basis.
