Job summary

Macomb County is seeking a Morgue Specialist to join the Health Department. This full-time role handles autopsy support, body handling, and morgue maintenance with proper documentation and coordination with law enforcement and labs.

The position offers benefits with no monthly premium for eligible coverage, starting day one, and requires a high school diploma with valid Michigan driver’s license; an Associate degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Michigan driver's license and insurance.
• Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Mortuary Science or Forensic Science preferred; experience with autopsy or morgue duties is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Receive, store and release bodies with proper documentation.
• Prepare, lift and transport bodies for autopsy.
• Assist in autopsies and handling of morgue areas; maintain supplies.
• Photograph autopsies and document evidence.
• Maintain records and prepare daily logs and invoices; on-call coverage on weekends/holidays.
