Job summary

Catalina Island Company seeks a seasonal Mooring Shop Attendant to prepare, organize, and stage mooring gear for daily operations on the water. You will inspect lines, chains, floats, and related gear and keep the Mooring Shop clean, organized, and safe while supporting on-water crews.

You will work in a fast-paced outdoor environment, following safety procedures and assisting with repairs and maintenance as needed to ensure equipment is ready for each shift.

Qualifications

• Experience in marine, marina, maintenance, warehouse, or physically demanding work preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and stage mooring lines, chains, floats, wands for daily on‑water operations.
• Inspect equipment for wear and report concerns to supervisor.
• Maintain Mooring Shop and storage areas in a clean, safe condition.
• Assist with assembling, repairing, and maintaining mooring equipment.
• Move and stage equipment for on‑water crews.
• Ensure equipment is accounted for and returned after use.

JOB SUMMARY

The Mooring Shop Attendant is responsible for preparing, organizing, maintaining, and staging mooring equipment and supplies to support the daily operations of the On-Water Mooring Department. This position ensures that lines, chains, floats, wands, and other necessary equipment are properly prepared, inspected, and readily available for the mooring crew.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mooring Shop Attendant prepares lines, chains, floats and wands for the "on the water" mooring department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare and stage mooring lines, chains, floats, wands, and related equipment for daily on-water operations.
• Inspect mooring equipment for visible wear, damage, or deficiencies and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Organize and maintain the Mooring Shop, equipment, tools, and storage areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
• Assist with assembling, repairing, cleaning, and maintaining mooring equipment as directed.
• Measure, cut, splice, tie, and otherwise prepare lines and related materials as required.
• Move, load, unload, and stage equipment and materials for on-water crews.
• Ensure equipment is properly accounted for and returned to designated storage areas after use.
• Assist the on-water mooring team with preparation and turnaround of equipment as needed.
• Follow established safety procedures when handling heavy, wet, or potentially hazardous equipment.
• Properly use and maintain hand tools, shop equipment, and other assigned equipment.
• Communicate equipment needs, shortages, damage, or maintenance concerns to management.
• Maintain a high level of organization to ensure the on-water crew has the necessary equipment available and ready for each shift.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience in a marine, marina, maintenance, warehouse, or physically demanding work environment preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while also supporting a team.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to perform hands‑on physical work.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced outdoor environment.
• Prior experience handling ropes, lines, chains, or marine equipment is a plus.

HOUSING

The Catalina Island Company offers shared housing as an option for eligible employees at a subsidized rate. Employees are responsible for paying a portion of the housing cost, typically deducted through payroll.

Accommodation generally includes shared bedrooms, shared bathrooms and a community kitchen. Housing is subject to availability and cost will vary based on location.
