Job summary

Chaminade University of Honolulu is seeking a Montessori Classroom Aide (Student Substitute) to provide on-call classroom support at the Montessori Laboratory School. This part-time student worker role supports teachers, prepares materials, manages routines, and helps maintain a safe, organized learning environment for young children.

The position requires reliability, professionalism, and the ability to collaborate with staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proof of criminal record clearance.
• Physical examination clearance for working with children ages two through six.
• Current TB screening.
• Membership in the Early Childhood Systems Patch Registry with the qualification of Aide for group child care centers and homes.
• Ability to follow classroom instructions and established safety practices.
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with young children and teaching staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-call classroom support and substitute coverage as scheduled and as needed.
• Follow the classroom plans, routines, procedures, and instructions provided by the Administrator and/or Montessori Teacher.
• Support teaching staff in maintaining a safe, welcoming, respectful, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Assist with supervising and redirecting children as directed by the teaching staff. Assist with transitions and classroom routines to help maintain an orderly learning environment.
• Assist with preparing, organizing, arranging, and maintaining Montessori classroom materials and activities.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the classroom and prepared environment. Assist with cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, moving furniture, and other classroom maintenance tasks as needed.
• Prepare snacks and assist with routine classroom needs in accordance with established procedures.
• Refill and organize classroom supplies.
• Assist with setting up and cleaning up before and after classroom activities.
• Attend school functions, meetings, orientations, and training sessions as requested.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, staff, students, and families as appropriate to the position.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, students, staff, and University information. Report safety concerns promptly and appropriately.
• Follow all University policies, classroom procedures, and applicable health and safety requirements.
• Perform other similar, comparable, or related duties as assigned or required.
