Job summary

AdventHealth in Winter Park, FL is seeking a Monitor Technician to observe telemetry, document arrhythmias, and promptly notify nurses of abnormalities. You will maintain alarms, support quality initiatives, and help keep the unit clean and organized.

The role requires basic EKG knowledge, strong English communication, and flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed. A high school grad and AdventHealth training support success in this position.

Qualifications

  • Monitor technician experience or completion of AdventHealth Monitor Technician training or equivalent.
  • Must read, write, and speak conversational English.
  • Proficiency in English language.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Pleasant telephone manner and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and complete a competency check list within 90 days.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and overtime.
  • Basic EKG knowledge and ability to interpret patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Observes monitors, documents normal and abnormal EKG patterns, and notifies nursing staff of abnormalities.
  • Maintains monitor alarms per policy and ensures alarms are audible each shift.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives with accurate documentation.
  • Maintain telemetry printouts during cardiac events and as indicated.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding patient status.
  • Assist in keeping a clean, organized, sanitized work environment.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices.

Job Description
  • Demonstrates behavior that aligns with the company's core values.

  • Observes monitors, recognizing and documenting normal and abnormal EKG patterns, and promptly notify nursing staff of any abnormalities.
  • Maintains monitor alarms per policy, verifies that alarms are set and audible every shift, and troubleshoots monitors as needed.
  • Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities, demonstrating accurate documentation and monitoring of activities, and supporting departmental quality standards and initiatives.
  • Exhibits a desire to learn and upgrade skills, performing other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
  • Maintains telemetry printout during cardiac arrest and as indicated.
  • Ensures effective communication with the healthcare team regarding patient status and any changes observed.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, ensuring equipment is properly sanitized and stored.
  • Participates in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and departmental procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Monitor technician experience or successful completion of AdventHealth Monitor Technician training program or equivalent. [Required]

  • Familiar with medical terminology and arrhythmia identification. [Required]
  • Ability to quickly learn and successfully complete a competency skill check off list within 90 days of employment. [Required]
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible workweek including weekends, nights, and overtime as required. [Required]
  • Customer service skills. [Required]
  • Demonstrates a specialized level of knowledge and thorough understandings of practices/procedures related to hospital nursing practices, telemetry monitor, and infection control procedures. [Required]
  • Basic knowledge of computer use or willingness to learn. [Required]
  • Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, which addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of the patient populations served within the department. [Required]
