Job summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is seeking a Monitor Technician to observe and interpret heart monitor readings for multiple patients, reporting irregularities and ensuring timely communication with care teams. The role is a regular, hourly position designed to support inpatient telemetry services across the rural health network.

Requirements include at least 1 year of monitor technician experience or telemetry work, EKG training/competency, and BLS certification within two weeks of hire.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of Monitor Technician I experience at MUSC or 1 year of Monitor Technician/Telemetry work in a health care facility and successful completion of the EKG training/competency during orientation to remain in the Monitor Technician II position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 2 weeks of hire and maintained thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and interpret multiple patient heart monitors to detect abnormalities and irregularities.
  • Document and report findings promptly to the care team and escalate issues as needed.

The Monitor Technician will Observe and examine the heart monitors of various patients and detecting and reporting on abnormalities and inconsistencies, such as irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia.

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements: At least 1 year in a .6fte or greater Monitor Technician I position at MUSC or 1 year of Monitor Technician/Telemetry work experience in a health care facility and succesful completion of the EKG training/competency during the orientation period in order to remain in the Monitor Technician II position.

Credentials

Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

  • For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker.
  • 20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet.
  • 25 lbs. of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
