Job summary

St. Luke’s Health – Memorial Lufkin is seeking a Monitor Tech responsible for continuous observation of patients’ cardiac rhythms, promptly reporting changes to nursing staff and providers. You will monitor EKG strips, measure intervals, and document findings to support patient safety.

Requirements include an accredited EKG Technician program, internship at Baylor St Luke’s, 1 year of Monitor Tech/ EMT/ Paramedic experience, and CPR/BLS certification within 14 days. This role is based at St.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited EKG Technician program.
• Completed internship at Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center.
• One year of experience as a Monitor Tech, EMT, or Paramedic.
• Basic Life Support - CPR within 14 days.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observe monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered.
• Set up, calibrate and maintain telemetry settings and alarms; obtain strips as needed.
• Identify rhythm changes and notify RN; respond to emergencies and document findings.
• Assist in answering calls; ensure transmitters are cleaned between patients.
• Attend mandatory in‑services and department meetings; float to other areas as needed.

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As a Monitor Tech, you will be responsible for continuous observation and analysis of patients' cardiac rhythms to detect and report changes.

As a Monitor Tech, you will be responsible for continuous observation and analysis of patients' cardiac rhythms to detect and report changes. Every day you will meticulously monitor EKG strips, identify arrhythmias, measure intervals, and promptly communicate critical findings to nursing staff and healthcare providers, ensuring accurate documentation. To be successful, you will demonstrate sharp observational skills, a thorough understanding of cardiac rhythms, and the ability to act quickly and precisely under pressure, crucial for patient safety and timely intervention.

• Continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and Maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur. Labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval
• Trouble shoots telemetry equipment, Ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensure telemetry supplies are readily available. Accounts for all telemetry transmitters, Verifies daily telemetry charges
• Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff
• Assists in answering telephone, ensures transmitters are properly cleaned between patients.
• Demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development by completing annual mandatory in‐services and Code Validation within given time frame, attends unit‐based in‐services, attends monthly departmental meetings. Demonstrates flexibility in responding to unit/service needs, i.e., floating to other areas
