Summary:

  • The MST is responsible for continuous observation of cardiac rhythms in the Central Monitoring Room. The MST interprets cardiac rhythms and distinguishes between normal and abnormal rhythms. The MST reports cardiac rhythm information in an accurate, timely manner to nursing staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Cardiac Monitoring and Rhythm Analysis: Admits patient into system, enters all applicable patient information, verifies correct telemetry transmitter, completes necessary paperwork, obtains reports, analyzes and documents rhythm strips, and notifies nursing staff of findings. Recognizes conditions mimicking dysrhythmias, maintains vigilance, responds to emergencies, disinfects equipment, troubleshoots within scope, and reports malfunctions.
  • Documentation: Records rhythm analysis details, response actions, and tests response times daily, and during emergencies.
  • Communication: Notifies nursing staff of rhythm changes, maintains communication with team, ensures continuous monitoring, and introduces self to patients, explaining procedures.
  • Role Development: Continually develops knowledge, performs competency assessments, promotes quality care, mentors new staff, and adheres to dress code.
  • Department and Organizational Support: Participates in committees, supports organizational programs, maintains survey readiness, and contributes to data collection.
  • Departmental Support: Maintains equipment, keeps work area organized, supports patient care initiatives, attends meetings, and ensures a neat environment.

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 1+ years experience or equivalent, including CCH Dysrhythmia Course and MST Orientation
