Job summary

Perplexity is seeking a monetization engineer to own the billing abstractions powering Computer and all paid experiences. You will ship new SKUs, run pricing experiments, and convert users into paying customers, while aligning with Finance, Data Science, Growth, Security, and GTM teams.

You’ll work with a modern stack (Python, Go, Stripe, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker) and own revenue paths from subscriptions to usage-based billing at scale.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Direct experience building or scaling billing, payments, subscriptions, or monetization systems.
• Deep familiarity with payment processors (Stripe, Square, etc.).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and data-informed decisions.
• Strong backend engineering skills in Python.
• Cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Support, or Growth stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the billing platform and monetization systems powering Computer and paid experiences at Perplexity.
• Lead features end-to-end from problem definition through technical design, implementation, and launch.
• Build and operate subscription, invoicing, and usage-based billing systems for millions of users.
• Improve reliability with tiered SLOs, monitoring, and proactive alerting.
• Collaborate with Finance, Data Science, Growth, Security, Support, and GTM to keep data accurate and compliant.
• Develop internal tooling to diagnose and resolve billing issues quickly.
