Job summary

Harvard University’s Hotamışlıgil Lab seeks a Laboratory Manager to direct day-to-day operations in a leading Molecular Metabolism Lab in Boston, MA on campus. The role requires leadership, meticulous oversight of biosafety, and proactive orchestration of supplies, budgets and staff on a fast-paced team.

The incumbent will maintain safety compliance, liaise with EH&S and grants management, and guide lab members through onboarding and training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is required.
• 3+ years of relevant experience is required.
• Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) will also be considered.
• Strong innovative and creative problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Independent individual who can work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Proactively assessing ways to make the lab more efficient regarding space, spending and workflow.
• Demonstrated analytical, logistical and organizational acumen and problem-solving skills.
• Strong technical knowledge and experience in molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry.

Responsibilities

• Maximize efficiency and flow within the laboratory while complying with general safety regulations.
• Write and maintain COMS biosafety protocols and ensure compliance with federal biosafety guidelines.
• Maintain an orderly lab environment as a top priority.
• Oversee ordering of supplies and reagents; manage funding sources and inventory.
• Communicate with the principal investigator about spending and cost-saving opportunities; coordinate with grants management.
• Serve as liaison between PI, compliance departments and lab staff.
• Assist in onboarding of lab members and ensure university training compliance.
• Lead a term appointment of one year with potential extension; occasional on-call duties may occur.
