Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or a related science with 1 year of lab experience/training.
• ASCP certification for the assigned specialty, as available.
• State licenses to perform laboratory testing as required by the state.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical laboratory tests proficiently in the department under general supervision, and exercises independent judgment in the specialty assigned.
• Follows procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing analyses, reporting and records tests accurately.
• Maintains records that proficiency testing samples are tested like patient specimens.
• Determines acceptability of specimens, prepares clinical specimens for testing and identifies related problems.
• Analyzes specimens using approved testing procedures.
• Reviews, releases test results and reports STATS or Critical results to the interpreting physician per SOP.
• Performs and documents Quality Control on reagents, equipment and assays and addresses QC failures with supervision.
• Documents corrective actions when test systems deviate from standards.
• Prepares stock solutions, reagents and cocktails and tests/evaluates them per SOPs.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology

Bachelor’s Degree in chemical/physical/biological sciences with 1 year of lab experience

ASCP certification (nationally)

FL State license to perform laboratory testing = Clinical Laboratory Technologist

CA State license to perform laboratory testing = Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist

TN Medical Laboratory Professional license
