Job summary

TekWissen is seeking a Scientist II, Molecular Biology to join a growing genome engineering team. The role requires hands-on protein engineering experience, including expression, purification, and activity screening, and will design and execute experiments independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The successful candidate will contribute to new product development, document protocols and results, and present data at internal and external conferences, with a strong emphasis

Qualifications

  • Master's in molecular biology/biochemistry/genetics or related with 1–2+ years lab experience; BA with 3+ years accepted.
  • Strong cloning experience (PCR, mutagenesis, sequencing) required.
  • Experience with protein expression and purification required.
  • Experience characterizing proteins using PAGE gels, functional assays, or similar techniques.
  • Experience with protein functional activity screens, especially bacterial.
  • AKTA protein purification experience desired.
  • Protein evolution and/or protein characterization experience highly preferred.
  • Prior industrial laboratory experience desirable.
  • Strong background in protein engineering applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments.
  • Strong data analysis, research design, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement new techniques and procedures.
  • Strong technical writing and scientific communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate laboratory documentation.
  • Ability to follow applicable safety, training, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design experimental plans and execute molecular biology and protein engineering experiments.
  • Support development of new products and genome engineering technologies.
  • Perform protein expression, purification, characterization, and functional activity screening.
  • Analyze experimental data and perform quantitative analyses to support development activities.
  • Develop laboratory protocols, technical reports, quantitative analyses, and product summaries.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems related to experimental design and development projects.
  • Investigate and implement new methods and technologies to improve development workflows.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and documentation in accordance with applicable standards and IP requirements.
  • Present scientific data and research findings at internal and external scientific conferences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Bioinformatics, Marketing, Business Development, Quality, Operations, and Technical Services.
  • Support evaluation and implementation of new techniques and procedures for manufacturing reagents, systems, products, or technologies.
  • Comply with applicable safety, training, and quality requirements.

Summary

The Scientist II, Molecular Biology will join a growing genome engineering team and contribute to the development of new products and technologies. The role requires strong molecular biology expertise with hands‑on experience in protein engineering applications, including protein expression, purification, characterization, and functional protein activity screening. The Scientist II will independently design and execute experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot development challenges, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Bioinformatics, Marketing, Business Development, Quality, Operations, and Technical Services.

Required Skills
  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related discipline with 1–2+ years of laboratory experience; alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong cloning experience, including standard cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, and sequencing is required
  • Experience with protein expression and purification is required.
  • Experience characterizing proteins using PAGE gels, functional assays, or similar techniques.
  • Experience with protein functional activity screens, particularly bacterial functional screens.
  • Experience with AKTA protein purification is desired.
  • Protein evolution and/or protein characterization experience is highly preferred.
  • Prior industrial laboratory experience is desirable.
  • Strong background in protein engineering applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments.
