Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–3 years of mold repair, gel coat repair, fiberglass repair, auto body repair, or marine finishing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect molds for defects affecting gel coat and lamination process.
• Perform gel coat repairs including color matching, filling, sanding, polishing, buffing, and waxing.
• Prepare surfaces for repair by cleaning, grinding, sanding, and masking affected areas.
• Mix and apply gel coats, resins, fiberglass mats, fillers, and tooling gel to restore damaged mold surfaces.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Ensure repaired surfaces meet company quality and cosmetic standards.
• Assist in building or modifying molds and steel frameworks.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow safety procedures for handling chemicals and equipment.
• Document repairs and communicate recurring quality issues to supervisors.
• Assist with final finishing and detailing as needed.

Summary

Mold Repair Technician works in the Sub Assembly or Lamination Department reporting to those managers.

Position Overview:

The Mold Repair Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and restoring surfaces on Molds during and after the manufacturing process. This role ensures all fiberglass and gel-coated components meet company quality standards for appearance, durability, and finish. The technician works with various tools, materials, and finishing techniques to correct cosmetic and structural surface defects prior to lamination.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect the molds for boat hulls, decks, and components for defects that could affect the gel coat and lamination process such as scratches, chips, cracks, halos, porosity and discoloration.
• Perform gel coat repairs including color matching, filling, sanding, polishing, buffing, and waxing.
• Prepare surfaces for repair by cleaning, grinding, sanding, and masking affected areas.
• Mix and apply gel coats, resins, fiberglass mats, fillers, and tooling gel to restore damaged or worn mold surfaces per manufacturers specifications.
• Use hand tools, power tools, sanders, buffers, and spray equipment safely and effectively.
• Ensure repaired surfaces meet company quality and cosmetic standards.
• Assist in building, framing, modifying, or reconstructing molds and supporting steel frameworks to meet changing production specifications.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow safety procedures for handling chemicals, resins, solvents, and equipment.
• Document repairs and communicate recurring quality issues to supervisors.
• Assist with final finishing and detailing as needed.
• Maintain Safety training as assigned.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to Stand and Walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry/move up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent needs to: climb, crawl, push, pull, lift, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, speak, hear, visually inspect work, rotate arms at various angles, reach overhead, reach at or below shoulder level, gross, fine manipulation to operate hand and power tools, etc.
• Ability to work in confined spaces within boat hulls and compartments.
• Work in an environment with exposure to noise at levels not requiring ear protection, chemicals, and dust. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and eye protection.
• Must be able to wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and respirators as required.
• Work off a creeper.
