Job summary

Seaway Plastics seeks a Mold Maker in Minnesota to take ownership of mold assembly, repair, and inspection, working with Tooling Engineers, CNC Machinists, and EDM specialists to meet customer deadlines.

Responsibilities include using Mastercam to view designs, planning minor jobs, and safely operating shop equipment; candidates should have 5+ years in mold making and a 2-year technical program.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a 2-year technical/trade school program in tool making or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of mold making in a tool shop environment
  • Extensive experience in precision surface grinding or 5+ years with CNC milling/EDM/Wire EDM
  • Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and geometric tolerances
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Mastercam experience for viewing designs and prints
  • Knowledge of mold building processes and shop operations
  • Proficient with precision measuring tools
  • Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds and use proper equipment
  • Forklift and overhead hoist operation certification/experience

Responsibilities

  • Assemble molds of any complexity with minimal supervision
  • Plan and schedule minor jobs to meet delivery dates
  • Coordinate with Tool Room Supervisor to align with deadlines
  • Disassemble and troubleshoot molds and implement corrective plans
  • Perform inspection procedures efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Wire runner-less molds independently
  • Determine timing and assemble molds with rack and gear systems
  • Operate shop equipment safely with minimal supervision
  • Communicate with outside vendors; prepare prints/sketches for outsourced work
  • Use Mastercam to view designs and create manufacturing prints
  • Fit parting lines and shutoffs for molds
  • Manage and perform minor mold repairs
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Primary Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility to ensure jobs are completed on time.
  • Work collaboratively with a cross‑functional team including Tooling Engineers, CNC Machinists, and EDM Machinists.
  • Assemble molds of any complexity with minimal supervision to meet customer approval.
  • Plan and schedule minor jobs to meet quoted delivery dates.
  • Coordinate with Tool Room Supervisor to align with project deadlines.
  • Disassemble and troubleshoot molds; develop and execute plans to correct issues within reasonable time and cost constraints.
  • Perform inspection procedures efficiently and cost‑effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Wire runner‑less molds independently.
  • Determine timing and assemble molds with rack and gear systems, including hydraulic cylinder setups.
  • Operate necessary shop equipment safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with outside vendors; prepare necessary prints or sketches for outsourced work.
  • Use Mastercam software to view designs and create manufacturing prints.
  • Fit parting lines and shutoffs for injection and LSR molds.
  • Manage and perform minor mold repairs.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications And Skill Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid identification and authorization to work in the United States.
  • Completion of a 2‑year technical/trade school program in tool making or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mold making within a tool shop environment.
  • Extensive experience in precision surface grinding or 5+ years working with CNC milling, EDM, or Wire EDM processes.
  • Strong technical math skills, including geometry, trigonometry, and print reading.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully across departments.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to operate and use Mastercam software for viewing designs and prints.
  • Thorough knowledge of mold building processes and shop operations.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools common in mold making.
  • Physical ability to walk and climb stairs in a shop/office environment.
  • Able to lift up to 70 pounds and move heavier objects using proper equipment.
  • Strong manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Certified or experienced in safely operating forklifts and overhead hoists.
