Job summary

SlateUp, Inc. in Mishawaka, IN is seeking a skilled journeyman toolmaker to plan and fabricate tools to precise specifications and repair existing tools as needed.

You will read blueprints, set up and operate lathes, grinders, mills, CNCs and EDM; read prints; mentor apprentices; and collaborate on mold building designs.

Strong math, CAD familiarity, and the ability to work safely under time constraints are essential; journeyman certification in injection mold making is required.

Qualifications

• Journeyman certification in injection mold making.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information and respond to inquiries.
• Proficiency in CAD drawing formats and mathematical concepts (geometry, trigonometry).
• Ability to define problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

• Plan and fabricates new tools to precise specifications; repair existing tools as needed.
• Set up and operate machine tools (lathe, grinder, mill, CNC, EDM, drill press, saw).
• Read blueprints and part drawings; prototype and engineer fixtures.
• Mentor apprentices and others; collaborate on mold building designs.
• Maintain health and safety compliance and uphold company core values.

Shift: 1st shift

About the role

Plans and fabricates new tools to within precise specifications; may also modify or repair existing tools by performing the following duties.

• Performs complex tool making procedures requiring fitting and assembling parts, and adjusting meet requirements
• Build new and repair existing tools as needed meeting quality and time commitments.
• Setup and operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, burners, mills, CNC mill, EDM, drill press, saws and wire EDM.
• Read and interpret blueprints, part drawings and prints.
• Prototype and engineer fixtures with or without prints.
• Mentor and provide coaching and developmental assistance to apprentices and others around.
• Collaborate on mold building designs.
• Maintain compliance with all health and safety requirements. Report all unsafe activities to Supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Uphold Core Values in interactions with all employees, vendors, service personnel and visitors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

• Journeyman certification in injection mold making.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management.
• Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts from trigonometry and geometry including generally accepted CAD drawing formats. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Ability to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
