Job summary

gpac is seeking an experienced Mold Maker for a hands-on role in our Illinois precision manufacturing client. The successful candidate will take tooling from print through machining, fitting, assembly and final inspection on 1st or 2nd shift.

Requires a formal Mold Maker, Toolmaker, or Tool & Die apprenticeship and 5–10+ years of direct mold/tooling experience in a shop environment, with strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.

Job description

An established precision manufacturer is seeking experienced Mold Makers for both 1st and 2nd shifts. This is a hands-on position for a skilled tradesperson who can take tooling from print through machining, fitting, assembly, and final inspection.

Completion of a formal Mold Maker, Toolmaker, or Tool & Die apprenticeship is required.

Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, repair, modify, and maintain molds and precision tooling.
• Set up and operate conventional and CNC machining equipment.
• Perform milling, turning, grinding, drilling, fitting, and related machining operations.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tooling specifications.
• Machine and inspect components to tight tolerances.
• Perform bench work, fitting, spotting, polishing, and hand finishing.
• Troubleshoot mold/tooling problems and determine required repairs or modifications.
• Make tooling adjustments to improve quality and production performance.
• Partner with Engineering and Production to resolve mold and tooling issues.
• Inspect work using micrometers, indicators, height gauges, gauge blocks, calipers, and other precision instruments.

Qualifications

• Completed Mold Maker, Toolmaker, or Tool & Die apprenticeship required.
• 5-10+ years of hands-on mold making, toolmaking, or tool & die experience.
• Experience personally building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining molds/tooling.
• Background in a mold shop, toolroom, precision job shop, or similar environment.
• Strong manual machining skills, particularly mills and surface grinders.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Experience holding tight tolerances and performing precision inspection.Strong bench work, fitting, spotting, polishing, and hand-finishing skills.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot tooling and mold problems.
• CNC milling and EDM experience are valuable.
