Job Summary
The Mold Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that molds remain production ready, structurally sound, and capable of producing high-quality fiberglass shells. Mold Technicians maintain molds in production ready status, repair and alter molds to meet production needs, and in some facilities, participate in building new molds from scratch to support product development and fleet expansion.
Responsibilities
- Perform cosmetic and structural repairs on fiberglass molds, progressing from small surface repair to large refurbishments.
- Perform routine mold upkeep: cleaning, waxing, buffing and prepping fiberglass molds to maintain smooth, defect‑free surfaces and ensure proper release during production.
- Maintain mold floor textures and gelcoat surfaces to preserve finish quality and prevent imperfections in produced pool shells.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify cracks, delamination, wear, warping, or structural degradation.

- H40 – Apprentice
- Understand and use MSDS.
- Learn small cosmetic repairs.
- Learn large repairs with assistance.
- Learn to properly clean, grind, sand, and buff molds.
- Learn to properly apply release agents to new molds.
- Learn to properly maintain and repair mold floor texture.
- Follow safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- H50 – Intermediate
- Repair cracks in molds.
- Perform small repairs independently.
- Follow initiator catalyst chart for proper curing.
- Assist with leveling molds.
- Assist with splicing together pools.
- Assist with altering the depth of a standard pool.
- H60 – Advanced
- Teach others.
- Independently level molds.
- Independently evaluate mold condition.
- H70 – Expert
- Keep daily logs.
- Schedule work and meet deadlines.
- Budget the S&E for Mold.
- Operate all equipment and teach others proper use.
- Prepare plug for mold manufacturing.
- Evaluate and solve difficult problems and drive solutions.
- Track weekly goals and report to supervisor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
- Experience working with power tools and pneumatic tools preferred.
- Forklift experience preferred.
- Autobody or fiberglass experience preferred.
