Elevated is seeking a Modernization Adjuster / Supervisor to support NY and NJ markets, field-based with focus on final adjustment, commissioning, and performance of elevator modernization projects.

This role requires strong modernization and troubleshooting skills, the ability to read wiring diagrams, and experience with controller work. Applicants should be ready to work in demanding market conditions and ensure code-compliant, safe operation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years elevator industry experience
• 5+ years of modernization and adjustment experience
• Able to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
• Advanced troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

• Perform final adjustment, startup, and commissioning of modernised elevator systems
• Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
• Tune controllers, door operators, and ride quality to meet performance standards
• Support installation teams and coordinate with mechanics, foremen, and project managers
• Conduct Category testing and acceptance testing per NY/NJ code requirements
• Ensure work complies with NYC DOB/NYS, NJ Elevator Safety, ASME A17.1, and AHJ interfaces
• Maintain high safety, quality, and workmanship on all jobsites

Start Elevator, a fast-growing leader in the elevator services industry, is seeking a Modernization Adjuster / Supervisor to support our expanding operations in the New York and New Jersey markets.

Job Summary

This is a highly skilled, field-based role responsible for the final adjustment, commissioning, and performance of elevator modernization projects. This position plays a critical part in ensuring systems are safe, code-compliant, and operating at peak performance.

If you have strong experience in modernization, controller work, and troubleshooting, this is an opportunity to work on complex, high‑profile equipment in one of the most demanding markets in the country.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Perform final adjustment, startup, and commissioning of modernised elevator systems
• Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
• Tune controllers, door operators, and ride quality to meet performance standards
• Support installation teams and coordinate with mechanics, foremen, and project managers
• Conduct Category testing and acceptance testing in accordance with NY/NJ code requirements
• Ensure all work complies with:
  • New York (NYC DOB / NYS) regulations
  • New Jersey Elevator Safety regulations
  • ASME A17.1 codes
  • Interface with inspectors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
• Maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and workmanship on all job sites

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Elevator Mechanic License (NY and/or NJ preferred)
• 5+ years of elevator industry experience
• Strong modernization and adjustment experience
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
• Advanced troubleshooting skills

Preferred

• Experience as an Adjuster, Modernization Mechanic, or Lead Mechanic
• Experience with major OEM and non-proprietary controllers (Otis, Schindler, TK, KONE, GAL, etc.)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in elevator shafts, pits, and mechanical rooms
• Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
• Ability to lift 75+ lbs. and handle tools/equipment
• Ability to work in construction and industrial environments
