Job description

This position assists IT, GIS, and vendors with the installation and maintenance of the Integrated Mobility Technology System hardware and software into the Solid Waste & Recycling Collections division’s collection vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Assists IT and Public Works GIS in developing, creating, maintaining, and monitoring software tools, web maps, and applications needed for mobility and routing technology.
  • Installs, tests, and maintains all types of mobility technology, including switching and transmission equipment; conducts proof-tests including wire testing, circuit commissioning, and power tests.
  • Installs and sets up mobile (wireless) technology and workstations (mobile and office environments).
  • Installs and maintains mobile communication systems (mobile environment).
  • Provides support for web mapping infrastructure.
  • Assists in the integration of database systems (QAlert) and mobility software related to GIS mapping and work orders.
  • Operates mobility technology equipment, including mobile communication devices, tablets, and PC computers.
  • Assists with input of geographic and non-geographic data into the collections routing system.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with existing equipment and systems.
  • Analyzes cellular output data; tracks system use of wireless and communication devices; compiles reports for management.
  • Receives and inventories equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assists with the routing software designs for solid waste collections.
  • Produces and distributes digital reports; produces and distributes digital map products.
  • Performs a variety of clerical, administrative, and data entry tasks; compiles information and prepares reports; tracks and processes documents; enters and retrieves data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of departmental policies and proper timekeeping for inmates and Waste Equipment Operators and Workers.
  • Skill in installation and operation of mobility communications related equipment.
  • Skill in the analysis of QAlert data and in the creation of related reports.
  • Skill in analysis of mobility data and in the creation of related reports.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment including work-related computer applications.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses computer equipment, cell phones, and software requiring an intermediate level of technical knowledge, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

  • Pushing – using upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
  • Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
  • Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken words, conveying detailed, important instructions accurately and concisely.
  • Standing – for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.

The work is typically performed in an office or outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
