Job description

This position assists IT, GIS, and vendors with the installation and maintenance of the Integrated Mobility Technology System hardware and software in the Solid Waste & Recycling Collections division’s vehicles.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, creating, maintaining, and monitoring software tools, web maps, and applications for mobility and routing technology in collaboration with IT and GIS teams.
  • Installing, testing, and maintaining mobility technology, including switching and transmission equipment, wire testing, circuit commissioning, and power tests.
  • Setting up mobile (wireless) technology and workstations in mobile and office environments.
  • Maintaining mobile communication systems.
  • Supporting web mapping infrastructure and integrating database systems like QAlert with GIS mapping and work orders.
  • Operating mobility technology equipment such as communication devices, tablets, and computers.
  • Assisting with geographic and non-geographic data input into routing systems.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment and system issues.
  • Analyzing cellular output data and system usage, compiling management reports.
  • Inventory management of equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assisting in routing software design for waste collection.
  • Producing and distributing digital reports and map products.
  • Performing clerical, administrative, and data entry tasks, including report compilation and document processing.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of mobility communication equipment, GIS technology, hardware and software for mobility and QAlert applications.
  • Skills in installing, operating, analyzing data, report creation, and using standard office applications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and operate a motor vehicle.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with 1-2 years of relevant experience or training. Valid Georgia driver’s license and successful completion of a Department of Corrections inmate labor supervision certification within six months are required.

The work involves sitting at a desk or intermittently standing, bending, crouching, lifting objects, and using technical equipment, with the ability to distinguish shades of color.

Physical activities include balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, pulling, pushing, and more, often performed outdoors in various weather conditions with protective gear as needed.
